Zankou Chicken Review Los Angeles: Is the Famous Garlic Sauce Worth It?

After an eventful day at LACMA (which BTW, people Residing in L.A. County with Valid ID get in free! Read more on that here.

Zankou Chicken is one of those very LA food institutions that people swear by—and I finally had to see what the hype was about.

It’s a long-standing Armenian/Middle Eastern spot known for its rotisserie chicken, shawarma, and wraps. Everything is solid, flavorful, and honestly pretty affordable for Los Angeles. The chicken itself is juicy, well-seasoned, and exactly what you’d want from a quick, no-frills meal.

Now… let’s talk about the famous garlic sauce.

This is the part everyone hypes up—and maybe it was just my experience—but the intensity of it kind of overpowered everything for me. It’s super strong, super bold, and leans almost spicy in a way that made it hard to actually taste the rest of the flavors. I get why people love it, but for me, it was a bit much.

That said, I still think Zankou is worth trying at least once.

It’s quick, it’s iconic, and it’s one of those places that really feels like a staple of the LA food scene—you just might want to go easy on the garlic sauce your first time.

Would you try this place in LA?
