Nick Guillory eating tacos in Mexico on the beach in Puerto Vallarta

Me trying beach tacos… highly recommend that decision, but also be warned, it’s HOT AF in the off season.

I like to call Puerto Vallarta a foodie’s playground. When I first moved here, I was SHOCKED at how much good food was around. And, I’m not just talking about food that is Mexican food. Tacos are GREAT here. But I am the kind of person that likes to try various cultures. Not always American, either. I want the Italian, I want the Asian flavors, I want it allllll. So, here’s my list of top places that I am loving right now. If you try any, let me know! Btw, they are in no particular order, either. But I will rate them based on the following criteria: Food, Vibe, Will I Go Again.

Fei Long - Puerto Vallarta Mexico Chinese Food

Fei Long - Puerto Vallarta Mexico Chinese Food

Food: 7.5/10 (only complaint is it was extremely salty!)

Vibe: Quite nice. You can bring your own booze, too.

Will I Go Again: Absolutely! It is just a stone’s throw away from Zona, in the Cinco neighborhood.

San Pancho Pizza — The BEST Pizza in Puerto Vallarta

San Pancho Pizza — The BEST Pizza in Puerto Vallarta

Food: 10/10 — NO NOTES.

Vibe: Outdoor seating, and easily accessible. Right by the church in Zona. The one that’s closer to the Pier.

Will I Go Again: Absolutely! It’s dangerously close to where I’ve been staying.

Let’s Pho — The best and ONLY Pho in Puerto Vallarta, made my an actual Vietnamese person

Let’s Pho — The best and ONLY Pho in Puerto Vallarta, made my an actual Vietnamese person

Food: 10/10 — I know, you’re probably asking, why would he eat this in Mexico? Well, read above. I like to try different foods. No matter where I am. The guy that makes it is Vietnamese and knows his sh*t. It’s really tasty. And, pro tip: You get more when you order delivery, well, it feels like you do! Shhh.

Vibe: Pretty chill dining area.

Will I Go Again: Absolutely! I order it via Uber Eats, as well.

Chris’ Burgers — one of the BEST burgers in Puerto Vallarta

Chris’ Burgers — one of the BEST burgers in Puerto Vallarta

Food: 9/10 — Perfect size. A nice bite. Only complaint is that the bread is kind of too much.

Vibe: Chris is very nice and great service!

Will I Go Again: Absolutely, it is one of my favorite burger joints in town. When I don’t want a slider… I go here… AKA when I have a bigger appetite.

Que Bola — The Best Cuban Food in Puerto Vallarta

Que Bola — The Best Cuban Food in Puerto Vallarta

Food: 9/10 (no notes really, if you want really good vibes with good cuban flare, music, and food, come here!) I will say, the food is HEAVY. So, if you’re wanting to do anything after this, good luck to you. My goodness, I was immediately DONE for the night!

Vibe: Outdoor patio is where I always sit, I like to people watch.

Will I Go Again: Most definitely.

Canto — Authentic Cantonese flavors in the heart of Puerto Vallarta (in Zona Romantica)

Canto — Authentic Cantonese flavors in the heart of Puerto Vallarta (in Zona Romantica)

Food: 9/10 (the rice was a bit mushy, but the flavors on the food were UNREAL) and I had a martini here and it was DELECTABLE.

Vibe: It was great, I came toward closing and they were okay with me sitting in a bit later in the evening, so I was happy about that!

Will I Go Again: This place is really close to where I am staying, I’d go again, but I do think its a bit on the pricier side.

Barra Light — The BEST Salad in Puerto Vallarta

Barra Light — The BEST Salad in Puerto Vallarta

Food: 10/10 — I love how many options they have for salads, and you can customize it. And, they are HUGE salads. You really get your money’s worth. Go here when you’re tired of doing the whole carb/carnivore thing and need some green leaves. LOL!

Vibe: Very nice, I even worked on my laptop here once. Totally fine!

Will I Go Again: Absolutely! I go at least once a month. Good reset meal.

Pollo Feliz — the BEST rotisserie chicken in Puerto Vallarta

Food: 8/10 — listen, sometimes you just need chicken, tortilla, and rice and beans. This fast casual spot hits the spot every time. I like to go here when I don’t feel like cooking but also don’t want to eat too heavy! I also really love the roasted jalapeños for some added spice.

Vibe: I’ve sat inside a few times, but lately I just grab and go!

Will I Go Again: Yep, it’s too good to not pass up. And, its fairly healthy? I think?

Marisma Fish Taco — the BEST seafood tacos in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Marisma Fish Taco — the BEST seafood tacos in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Food: 10/10 (NO NOTES AT ALL!)

Vibe: Outdoor seating. Divine people watching. You’ll understand why all the food tours stop by here.

Will I Go Again: Absolutely! Its more of a lunch or early dinner spot. Just FYI, most days they close at like 6.

Arnulfo’s Churros — the BEST Churros in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Food: 25/10 - They are light, they are sugared to perfection. This man is an institution in Vallarta, and they are fairly inexpensive, for this bag I think I paid $30 pesos/$1.50 USD. Can’t beat that!

Vibe: Just walk up, grab ‘em, and eat ‘em while they are hot.

Will I Go Again: Absolutely! I pass him almost every day. But my waistline thanks me for not stopping EVERY DAY. But this is definitely a great treat every now and then.

I know some people are looking for nightlife, so I wanted to include that at the bottom of this post. Check out my favorite gay bars to check out while you’re in Vallarta above and let me know how it goes for ya!

Hope you enjoy your time in PV — like I said at the beginning of this post, I don’t think people fully realize how much GOOD FOOD is here in the city, until you really start trying new spots. I encourage you to try new spots. Don’t go to the “favorite” spot you’ve gone to for years. Try new restaurants. Be bold and step out of your comfort zone! It’s fun and you’ll experience life a different way. Have a safe and great time in Vallarta.
