The Best Gay Hotels in Puerto Vallarta (Ranked by a Local Who’s Slept Around… Literally)

The Best Gay Hotels in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta isn’t just a tropical paradise — it’s gay heaven on earth. I like to call it the LGBTQ capital of Mexico. Between the sparkling sunsets, margaritas that’ll knock you into next week, and some of the hottest men I’ve literally ever seen, PV is the spot to live your best queer fantasy.

Did I f*cking lie??

Here’s me enjoying the beach at sunset… Don’t ever be afraid to say hello ;)

And look, I’ve been living and visiting here for years. I’ve checked in, checked out, and sometimes… didn’t check out when I was supposed to 😅. From gay-only resorts to boutique hideaways with rainbow flags flying proudly, I’ve curated a list of my Top Gay and Queer-Friendly Hotels in Puerto Vallarta, all ranked using my very official “Drag Diva Rating” system (1–10).

If it’s a 10, it’s giving RuPaul finale energy.
If it’s a 5, it’s giving a CHOP and sashay away.

Ready? Where them fans at? CLACK CLACK CLACK… Let’s get into this list so you can book the flight hennyyyy.

But first…

The “Drag Diva Ratings” Explained

We like structure and things around these parts… so let’s get into it:

  • 10/10 – Crowned Queen: Must-stay perfection. Service, location, gay-friendly vibes — flawless.

  • 8–9/10 – Fan Favorite: Stunning, with minor quirks. Still very much “book it, boo.”

  • 6–7/10 – Safe Bet: Cute, comfortable, but maybe missing that extra glitter.

  • 5 or below – Girl…: Let’s just say, not everyone deserves a sash.

1. Almar Resort Luxury LGBT Beachfront Experience

Zona Romántica – Oceanfront Resort
Drag Diva Rating: 10/10
If PV had a gay monarchy, Almar would wear the crown. Everyone loves going here… even though, sometimes I feel like it can be a bit pricey for my wallet. It still hits. This luxury LGBT beachfront resort is where everyone wants to be seen. It’s attached to Mantamar Beach Club, which means daily pool parties, drag shows, and the occasional scandal (the good kind). They always have something going on and they are often hosting major events. Speedos are preferred attire here… and I’m a bit shy, so I try to fit in when I can without one, lol. If you’re ready to have a blast all weekend, or week — go ahead and book the room hun. You won’t be disappointed.

2. Casa Cupula

Hills above Zona Romántica – Boutique, Luxe, and a little naughty
Drag Diva Rating: 10/10
I adore this location and the vibe here. They often throw charity events, so it’s nice to be apart of that as well, and build community and also contribute to the community that is PV. This gay-owned boutique hotel is where chic meets cheeky. Pun-intended, lol. Two pools (one clothing-optional 👀), beautiful views, and enough local art to make you feel cultured and thirsty. Tell Don, I sent you ;) LOVE LOVE LOVE Don, he’s great.

3. Villa Premiere Boutique Hotel & Romantic Getaway

Beachfront near Downtown – Adults Only
Drag Diva Rating: 9/10
Not officially gay, but so gay-friendly it might as well be. Impeccable service, ocean views, and cocktails so strong you’ll forget your ex’s name. If you want to stay somewhere that’s a little polished and just away from all the noise, this is a great option. Great for couples that just want to escape their lives and recharge in peace.

Zona Romántica – The OG Gay Beach Hotel
Drag Diva Rating: 8.5/10
The legend. The icon. The sometimes-chaotic diva. You stay here for location and vibes, not perfection. Steps from the gay beach — and the people-watching? Iconic. You are sure to be entertained here — they often throw events and/or day parties. With the closeness to the beach, you can seemingly roll out of bed, to the pool or beach in minutes. Priceless, if you ask me!

5. Piñata PV Hotel (Men’s Only)

Zona Romántica – Clothing Optional, Playful Energy
Drag Diva Rating: 8.2/10
This one’s for the boys who like their pool parties unfiltered. Friendly owners, social atmosphere, and a strong drink policy (aka BYOB). This place is more of a local vibe… Lush plants that create a totally tropical oasis that is perfect for fun in the sun. Plus, they are always throwing pool parties with insanely good music. Perfect for the ones that don’t want to be in the scene but also don’t want to completely be in silence.

6. Tryst

Zona Romántica ––The Rendezvous Royale
Drag Diva Rating: 9.8 / 10
Listen, the thing I like the most about this spot is the drag show that is during the weekend brunch. Those gals SLAY. The pool party up top after is also a vibe. New but already iconic, Tryst is PV’s luxe lovechild — minimal design with maximal flirtation. You’ll want to spend your days in the rooftop pool, your brunches getting splashed by drag queens, and your nights letting the DJ set tempt you into “just one more” cocktail. It’s daring, polished, and unapologetically queer. For all my LA/WeHo readers, the place reminds me of the Abbey early days, when it was a vibe and less commercial. You’ll party with the likes of drag queens, celebs, and other exceptionally dressed LGBTQ folks.

Downtown / Zona Romántica – Local Favorite
Drag Diva Rating: 7.5/10
Colorful, affordable, and friendly. It’s giving old-school Mexico in the best way. Bonus points for the staff who actually remember your name. Also, the spot is right off the strip and the beach. You’re literally so close to so much it’s easy to walk around Vallarta, at least Zona Romantica, so you’ll have no problems stumbling home after the bar or the beach… :)

Downtown / Zona Romántica – Incredible views, footsteps from the beach

Drag Diva Rating: 8.9/10
Sleek, modern, and daring to be different — Pinnacle is your skyline seductress in PV. With multiple properties (Signature, Chic, 220), you can choose your vibe: party rooftop, quiet condo, or somewhere in between. Chic-179, their adults-only wing, is a favorite for its soaring views, rooftop pool, and inclusive design. It’s not perfect — some units feel more residential than “resort” — but for the queer traveler who wants flexibility + class + location, Pinnacle hits hard. Don’t miss the happy hour… its a staple, and a hit among everyone in town!

9. Sapphire Suites PV

Romantic Zone – Smaller Beachfront Stay
Drag Diva Rating: 7/10

Quiet, charming, and just steps from Los Muertos Beach, Sapphire Suites PV is for the traveler who likes to be near the action — without sleeping in it. You understand me? ;-) The rooms are comfy and breezy, the rooftop pool is a hidden gem, and the staff are genuinely sweet. It’s a great pick for those who want boutique vibes over big resort vibes. Think “quiet night in” energy with just enough temptation to wander out for one more drink. Plus, you’re so close to the beach — having that access is unbeatable. What are you waiting for? 10. Joint Cowork + Boutique Hotel

Zona Romántica – For the Digital Nomad Queens
Drag Diva Rating: 7.5/10

As a Digital Nomad, I love working here! The staff is super friendly, too. Sleek, modern, and refreshingly social, Joint Cowork + Boutique Hotel is made for the laptop-toting queens who love a good work-play balance. By day, it’s got strong Wi-Fi, good coffee, and plenty of space to crank out content or emails; by night, it transforms into a social hub just steps from PV’s nightlife. Rooms are minimalist but comfy, with touches of color and light that keep it feeling airy and fresh. It’s not a resort, but that’s the charm — you’ll actually meet people here. Perfect for creators, remote workers, and anyone who believes productivity and party can coexist (especially after happy hour).

11. Hotel Amaca

Zona Romántica Hills – Quiet Escape
Drag Diva Rating: 6.9/10

Tucked up in the hills above the Romantic Zone, Hotel Amaca is for the queens who’ve had their fill of pool parties and just want some peace (and maybe a nap). It’s simple, cozy, and easy on the wallet — perfect for a recharge before your next round of margaritas. Expect friendly service, charming terraces, and quiet nights with ocean breezes instead of bass drops. It’s not flashy, but that’s the point — Amaca is your exhale after a week at Almar or Blue Chairs. There are pool parties weekly!

South of town — but lovely in the same
Drag Diva Rating: 7.2 / 10
Resorts that are more commercial aren’t for everyone, but I know some people like the appeal of all-inclusive. She’s glossy, she’s bold… For travelers who want an all-inclusive resort with lots of amenities, decent adult zones, and strong service potential, Hilton Riviera is a contender. I was here for a SuperBowl party and they know how to keep you entertained, fed, and plenty of shots and drinks.. all free. I was shook. So if that’s your vibe… go for it, just know that it’s further away from town and it’s not exclusively LGBTQ. But it is friendly for us.

A Few More Thoughts Before You Book

  • Mantamar Beach Club is gorgeous — but always check your tab before you leave. Overcharging drama pops up now and then. 👀 This has happened to my friend once before, and me.

  • If you’re new to PV, stay in or near Zona Romántica. You’ll be walking distance from the beach, bars, and all the queer flare that you’re looking for.

  • Many hillside hotels have steep steps. Great for your glutes, not for heels. Wear comfy shoes, FOR SURE — not flip flops.

  • Bring sunscreen, stay hydrated (Liquid IV will be your friend), and tip generously — these locals keep the city shining for all of us.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gay Hotels in Puerto Vallarta

Is Puerto Vallarta really that gay-friendly?

Yes — Puerto Vallarta is the gay capital of Mexico. You’ll find rainbow flags year-round, from beach clubs to rooftop bars. The Romantic Zone (Zona Romántica) is the heart of it all, packed with drag shows, nightlife, and friendly locals. Whether you’re solo, coupled, or somewhere in between, you’ll feel welcome here.

Where should I stay — Romantic Zone or Hotel Zone?

If you want to be near the action, the Romantic Zone is the place to be. It’s walkable, social, and surrounded by bars, restaurants, and the beach. The Hotel Zone, where big names like Hilton sit, is quieter and more resort-style, ideal if you want to unwind and relax.

What’s the best gay beach in Puerto Vallarta?

Playa de los Muertos is the main gay beach, located in front of Blue Chairs and Mantamar Beach Club. It’s the go-to spot for tanning, socializing, and enjoying the sunset with a cocktail in hand. Arrive early if you want a prime beach chair at one of the resorts. Or, my favorite thing is grabbing a six pack and heading to the sea horse and poppin’ a squat and enjoying the view and the sunset.

Which hotels are clothing optional?

Casa Cupula offers a clothing-optional pool, and Piñata PV Hotel is men-only and clothing optional throughout. A few smaller guesthouses occasionally host private events too, so it’s always worth checking their websites before you book. You can also look into Jet’s Naked Tour for more fun. ;)

Are these hotels expensive?

Puerto Vallarta caters to every budget.

  • Luxury stays: Almar Resort, Tryst, Casa Cupula

  • Mid-range favorites: Villa Lola, Pinnacle Resorts, Sapphire Suites

  • Budget options: Hotel Amaca, Posada de Roger, Casa 567

Expect anywhere from $70–$400 USD per night depending on season and style.

What’s the nightlife like near these hotels?

The nightlife is legendary. Bars like CC Slaughters, Industry Nightclub, and Mr. Flamingo are all within walking distance of most hotels in the Romantic Zone. You can easily go from dinner to drag show to dance floor without needing to hop in a car. Honestly, I rarely am in a car. LOL!

When’s the best time to visit?

The peak season runs from November to April — perfect weather and endless parties. May through October is warmer, more humid, and quieter, which means better deals. Pride Month in late May is one of the best times to visit if you love a good parade and plenty of pool parties. You can also look into BeefDip — a favorite among gay men coming to Vallarta.

What’s the vibe like for solo travelers?

Incredibly welcoming. I go out alone often, but of course, with caution, like anywhere in the world. Puerto Vallarta is one of the easiest places to make friends as a solo gay traveler. Whether you’re lounging at the beach or bar hopping at night, you’ll find people ready to chat. Facebook groups and local meetups are great for finding events and new connections. You can also check out the gay mixers on Tuesday’s weekly during high season. Great place to chat it up with locals and visitors alike.

Any safety tips?

Puerto Vallarta is generally very safe, but keep your common sense handy:

  • Don’t leave drinks unattended.

  • Use official taxis or Uber.

  • Meet dates in public first.

  • Wear sunscreen — badly burned isn’t a good look on anyone. You know what I mean?

Final Thoughts: Come for the Sun, Stay for the Community

Puerto Vallarta isn’t just a vacation — it’s a homecoming for LGBTQ travelers from all over the world. Whether you want romance, rest, or a little bit of rooftop mischief, there’s a spot here for you.

And trust me — after living here, partying here, and falling in love with this incredible place, I can tell you: this city has a way of wrapping you up and never letting go. LITERALLY. I came here a couple years ago to visit and now I live here. Its a story you’re hear from a lot of people.

Puerto Vallarta is mágico.

Now go book your stay, babe. And when you see me on the beach singing to myself while sipping a margarita, come say hi. :) xoxo

Let’s F*CKING go!
