This little desert city has one of the most concentrated gay men’s resort scenes in the U.S., with everything from quiet, upscale boutique properties to clothing-optional resorts where the pool is basically the main event. Palm Springs itself highlights the city’s concentration of gay-owned and gay-focused accommodations, many of them close to nightlife, restaurants and the Arenas District.

And honestly? That’s part of what makes Palm Springs so much fun.

You can come here for a romantic weekend and never leave your resort. You can come single and meet half the people you know by the time Sunday rolls around. You can be completely clothed. You can be completely naked. You can party. Or you can sit by a pool with a cocktail and pretend your phone doesn't exist.

So if you're planning a gay Palm Springs getaway, here are the hotels and resorts I'd have on my radar.

Back when we were a proper country on Instagram and did borders and filters, and I had very little gray hair and a proper jaw structure.

First, understand the geography.

Warm Sands is one of the big gay-resort hubs in Palm Springs. A bunch of the men's resorts are clustered here, which makes it easy to bounce between properties, head downtown or get to the Arenas Road nightlife.

Then you've got resorts scattered through other parts of South Palm Springs and the Twin Palms area.

And here's something I would absolutely keep in mind: You don’t have to stay downtown..

A lot of these resorts are intentionally tucked away in residential neighborhoods. That's part of the appeal. You get the pool, privacy and resort atmosphere without feeling like you're sleeping above a nightclub.

1. The Hacienda At Warm Sands — the luxury pick

Best for: Couples, honeymoons, luxury, being pampered

If you're looking for the fancy gay Palm Springs experience, this is probably where I'd start.

The Hacienda feels much more like a boutique luxury retreat than a traditional gay men's resort. It's intimate, beautifully maintained and very service-focused. And yes, you're paying for that.

But the reviews back it up. It's currently sitting at a perfect 5.0 on Tripadvisor, with guests consistently praising the rooms, grounds, pools, food and staff.

What I like about it is that it doesn't feel like it's trying too hard to be sexy or "scene-y." It's more quiet luxury for gay men.

Basically: if somebody else is paying for the trip, send them here.

And there's a reason.

The property has that classic Palm Springs gay-resort formula down: beautiful pool, mountains in the background, men everywhere, breakfast and lunch, and enough of a social atmosphere that you're probably going to end up chatting with somebody.

If this is your first Palm Springs trip and you don't know where to start, Santiago is a very safe bet.

3. Twin Palms Resort - A Gay Men's Resort — the design guy's pick

Best for: Design lovers, couples, quieter luxury

Where: Twin Palms

Okay, this one is VERY Palm Springs.

Twin Palms leans hard into that mid-century-modern aesthetic that makes the city famous, but it doesn't feel like you're staying in some dusty retro museum.

It's polished. It's intimate. And the service seems to be a huge part of the experience.

Basically, if your ideal Palm Springs vacation involves architecture, a beautiful pool and men who own moisturizer, this is your place.

4. Descanso Resort, A Men's Resort — polished but still social

Best for: Guys who want upscale without stuffiness

Where: Central Palm Springs

Descanso is another one that gets ridiculously good reviews.

It's adults-only, gay men-focused and much more boutique than resort-y. The property is designed around relaxing, hanging by the pool and actually enjoying your vacation instead of running around town all day.

It's polished enough to feel special, but it doesn't have that "luxury hotel where everybody is whispering" energy.

5. INNdulge Palm Springs — the social pick

Best for: Solo travelers, meeting people, a more social pool scene

If you're coming to Palm Springs single, I'd definitely put INNdulge on your list.

This is more of a social resort experience, with a pool, hot tub, happy hour and plenty of opportunities to actually talk to people.

And that's important because some of the more luxurious resorts can be very couples-oriented.

INNdulge is also one of the properties I'd look at if you want the gay-resort experience without spending Hacienda money.

6. Vista Grande Resort - A Gay Men's Resort — the OG social resort

Best for: Social guys, clothing-optional travelers, longtime Palm Springs fans

Vista Grande has been around since 1984, so we're talking about one of the old-school names in Palm Springs gay resort culture.

It's men-only, adults-only and clothing-optional, but the vibe is more about hanging around the pool and meeting people than feeling like you're at some giant sex club.

And with hundreds of Tripadvisor reviews, there's a pretty substantial track record behind that 4.6 rating.

One thing I'd say: this isn't necessarily the property I'd choose if you're looking for the newest rooms and ultra-modern design.

But if you're looking for classic Palm Springs gay resort culture, that's exactly the point.

7. Trixie Motel — the design-forward wild card

Best for: Design lovers, couples, Instagram, a more playful Palm Springs experience

Where: Old Las Palmas

Price: $$$

If you're looking at this list and thinking, "Okay, but what if I don't want to stay at a gay men's resort?" — this is where Trixie Motel comes in.

Trixie Motel is completely different from the traditional Palm Springs resort experience. It's a tiny, adults-only boutique motel with just seven themed rooms, and yes, everything is pink, campy and very Trixie. The rooms have names like Pink Flamingo, Flower Power, Atomic Bombshell and Yeehaw Cowgirl, so subtlety clearly wasn't part of the design brief.

And honestly, that's exactly why I'd stay here.

The pool is the centerpiece, there's the BARBARA lounge on-site, and the whole property feels more like an experience than just somewhere to sleep. It's also right off Palm Canyon Drive, so you're close to restaurants, bars and everything else happening around town.

It's not the place I'd send you if you're specifically looking for a traditional gay men's resort or clothing-optional pool scene. But if you want something stylish, campy, intimate and very Palm Springs, Trixie is probably the most memorable hotel on this list.

And let's be honest: you're going to take a LOT of pictures.

8. Desert Paradise - A Men's Clothing Optional Resort — the low-key option

Best for: Budget-conscious travelers, first-time clothing-optional guests

Where: Warm Sands

Price: $$

Rating: 4.6 (194 reviews)

Desert Paradise is a smaller men's resort where the atmosphere is more intimate and relaxed.

You're still getting the Palm Springs gay-resort experience — pool, hot tub, clothing-optional environment and plenty of opportunity to socialize — but without necessarily paying luxury-resort prices.

If you're thinking, "I don't need marble countertops. I just want a clean room, a pool and some cute men," I'd look here.

10. Casa Oliver Hotel & Resort — the wild card

Best for: Social travelers, playful energy, guys who want something less traditional

Where: Warm Sands

Price: $$–$$$

Casa Oliver is a little different.

It's men-only, clothing-optional and intentionally more social and adult-oriented than some of the quieter properties on this list.

The important thing to know is that it has a much smaller review pool than somewhere like Santiago or INNdulge. The current Tripadvisor rating is 4.6, but that's based on only 31 reviews.

So I wouldn't put the 4.6 on exactly the same footing as a 4.6 with 700+ reviews.

Still, if you're looking for a more playful, social Palm Springs experience, it's worth knowing about.

If you've never stayed at one of these resorts before, don't overthink it.

Clothing optional means exactly that: optional.

You don't have to walk into the pool area and immediately throw your bathing suit into the desert.

Some guys are naked. Some guys are wearing swim trunks. Some guys are somewhere in between.

The whole point is that you're supposed to be comfortable.

And honestly, the vibe can vary dramatically from property to property. Some are very social and flirty. Others are much more focused on relaxation.

Read the resort's rules before booking so you know exactly what you're getting into.

Do You Need to Stay in a Gay Resort?

Nope.

Palm Springs has plenty of mainstream hotels that are very LGBTQ-friendly, and the city's LGBTQ scene extends well beyond the men's resorts.

The Arenas District is the main nightlife hub, while downtown gives you restaurants, bars, shopping and plenty to do during the day.

So if you're traveling with friends, want a more traditional hotel or simply don't care about staying at a gay men's resort, you have options.

But if you're specifically coming to Palm Springs for the gay experience?

I'd stay at a gay resort at least once.

It's part of the experience.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Palm Springs?

October through April is the sweet spot.

That's when Palm Springs goes from "why does anybody live here?" to "ohhhhhh, now I understand."

Fall brings warm days and much more comfortable evenings, winter is mild and sunny, and spring is warm enough for pool days without the absolutely ridiculous summer heat.

My favorite months?

November, March and early April.

November is especially good because you get that gorgeous desert weather without quite as much of the winter high-season madness.

March and April are warmer and perfect for pool days, although spring events can drive hotel prices up.

What about summer?

Summer is HOT.

I'm talking triple-digit temperatures.

But here's the thing: summer can actually be a great time for a gay resort trip if you're mainly planning to sit by the pool.

Hotels often offer better rates, the pools are obviously open, and you can basically spend the entire day doing absolutely nothing.

Which, frankly, sounds like a vacation.

Just don't plan an ambitious 2 p.m. hike in July.

Palm Springs Pride

November 6–8, 2026

This is the big one.

The 2026 celebration marks the 40th anniversary of Palm Springs Pride, with the festival running November 6–8 and the parade on Sunday, November 8.

The festival takes over downtown areas including Palm Canyon and the Arenas District, with DJs, drag, vendors, food and community events.

If you want to experience Palm Springs when the entire city is basically screaming GAY, this is your weekend.

Halloween in Palm Springs

October 30–31, 2026

Halloween is a big deal around the Arenas District.

Expect street parties, performances and nightlife throughout the weekend.

If your idea of a vacation involves costumes, shirtless men and questionable decisions, this might be your weekend.

The Dinah

September 30–October 4, 2026

Full disclosure: The Dinah is primarily a lesbian/sapphic event, not a gay men's event.

But it's important enough to mention because it's one of the major LGBTQ events in Palm Springs.

If you're traveling with queer women or have friends attending, you'll definitely notice The Dinah taking over town.

February 11–21, 2027

Okay, this isn't technically a gay event.

But I'd be lying if I didn't tell you it's very Palm Springs.

Modernism Week celebrates the city's mid-century architecture, design, art and vintage culture.

If you're the type of gay who gets genuinely excited about a gorgeous 1950s house, you need to go.

A Few Things to Know Before Booking

Don't automatically book the cheapest resort.

Palm Springs has a LOT of small properties, and the experience can vary pretty dramatically.

Look at the recent reviews, not just the overall score.

A 4.7 based on 700 reviews tells me more than a 4.9 based on 14 reviews.

That's why I use Tripadvisor ratings as one piece of the puzzle rather than blindly ranking hotels by stars.

Decide how social you want to be.

This might actually be more important than price.

Do you want:

Quiet + luxury? Hacienda.

Social + classic? Santiago.

Design + calm? Twin Palms.

Meet people? INNdulge.

How many days do you need in Palm Springs?

I'd say 3–4 nights is perfect for a first trip.

You can have a couple of full pool days, explore downtown, hit the gay nightlife, do a hike or day trip and still have time to actually relax.

And trust me: don't plan every minute.

Palm Springs is one of those places where sitting around the pool for four hours is a perfectly legitimate itinerary.

Do I need a car in Palm Springs?

You can get around without one if you're staying close to downtown and the Arenas District, especially if you're comfortable using rideshare.

But having a car makes life easier if you want to explore the desert, go hiking, visit Joshua Tree or stay farther south.

What should I pack for a gay resort in Palm Springs?

Swimwear. Obviously.

But also bring sunscreen, sunglasses, comfortable clothes, something cute for dinner and a light layer for winter evenings.

And if you're staying at a clothing-optional resort?

Bring more than one swimsuit.

Final Thoughts: Is Palm Springs Worth It for Black Gay Travelers?

Absolutely — but I'd go in knowing that your experience as a Black gay man may be a little different from what you see in the glossy Palm Springs travel photos.

Palm Springs is undeniably gay-friendly, and the resort scene makes it incredibly easy to meet other gay men, relax, flirt, have a drink and basically let the outside world disappear for a few days. But when you're Black and gay, I think it's worth paying attention to where you stay, what kind of crowd you want around you and how comfortable you feel in the spaces you're choosing.

Because the truth is, not every gay space is going to feel exactly the same when you're a Black man.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't come. Quite the opposite.

There's something really nice about waking up, grabbing some breakfast, throwing on your swimsuit and heading to the pool without having to plan some elaborate itinerary. You might meet another guy, make a new friend, spend the afternoon talking shit and drinking by the pool, and eventually realize you've done absolutely nothing productive all day.

And honestly? That's a vacation.

Then you can get dressed, head down to Arenas Road for drinks or dinner, check out the nightlife and see where the night takes you.

For Black gay travelers, I'd also encourage you to get out of the resort bubble. Go explore Palm Springs, check out the restaurants and neighborhoods, take in the architecture, visit the surrounding desert and don't make the entire trip about the gay scene.

Because Palm Springs is more than a pool full of gay men.

And if you're coming here with a partner, coming solo, looking for nightlife, or just trying to disappear somewhere warm for a few days, there's a version of Palm Springs that can work for you.

Is it a perfect destination for Black gay men? Probably not.

But is it worth experiencing?

Absolutely.

Come for the sunshine. Stay for the pool. Meet some people. Have a good time. And if a particular space doesn't feel like your vibe, keep it moving.

Because at the end of the day, you deserve to have a Palm Springs vacation that feels like it's yours, too.
