End of Summer 2026: 10 Quick Gay Getaways Before the Season's Out
Summer ain’t ever over when you’re gay. Let’s talk about it… There’s still some time to partake in some summer fun before the weather turns gray. And some of these locations below are actually really good year round… like Palm Springs. Much more fun to be. had brothas! Where we going? Best part of these spots are you don't need a passport or a 14-hour flight for any of these. Ten United States cities, ten different vibes, all doable off a long weekend. Here's when to go and where to lay your head.
1. Palm Springs, CA
If you know, you know — Palm Springs basically invented the gay pool party. Warm Sands is the neighborhood you want, packed wall to wall with clothing-optional resorts where the whole point is you never actually have to leave the property. Desert energy, mid-century everything, a crowd that's there to relax, not perform.
My ultimate favorite (more below) hotel in Palm Springs is the very gay-owned Trixie Motel, recently had the best time with a big group of friends for our friend’s 40th birthday there. The hotel, the staff, and the rooms are all pristinely kept, and it was a really good time!
When to go: September is still HOT out there (triple digits, don't let the desert fool you) — wait for October if heat isn't your thing, it mellows into perfect 85-90° pool weather. Bonus: Palm Springs Pride lands November 6–8, 2026, so stretching a trip into early November gets you the parade, the parties, and cooler nights all at once.

Twin Palms Resort — newer, modern build in Warm Sands, mountain views and breakfast included.
Santiago Resort — clothing-optional, big heated pool, outdoor spa, classic PS resort energy.
The Hacienda at Warm Sands — small and intimate, basically 1:1 staff to guest.
INNdulge — the social one, Thursday pizza nights, weekend pool parties, a 12-man jacuzzi that WILL have stories.
El Mirasol Villas — the OG, gay-owned and operated since 1975.
2. Rehoboth Beach, DE
The East Coast's low-key answer to Fire Island — smaller, cheaper, less attitude. The gay scene lives around Baltimore Ave and Poodle Beach, and by September the summer tourist chaos has thinned out but the water's still warm enough to enjoy.
When to go: Rehoboth Beach Pride typically lands in September — check sussexpride.org for the locked-in 2026 weekend since it wasn't posted yet at time of writing. Either way, September and early October are the sweet spot: boardwalk's still open, crowds are down, rates drop from peak summer.

The Avenue Inn and Spa — breakfast, spa, hot tub, seasonal beach shuttle.
Hotel Rehoboth — downtown, spacious rooms, free breakfast, and parking (matters more than you think out there).
Boardwalk Plaza Hotel — Victorian-style, right on the water, whirlpool tubs, oceanfront lounge.
Brighton Suites Hotel — close to the boardwalk and the gay bars, indoor pool for backup days.
Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center — direct beach access, on-site dining, walking distance to the dance clubs.
3. Atlanta, GA
Lost my phone with all my Atlanta pics but I did have a layover in the Amex Lounge recently and enjoyed myself THOROUGHLY. Made friends with the bartender and got F*CEKD UP.
Y'all already know Atlanta shows up for Labor Day with Black Pride, but don't sleep on the second wave — Atlanta Pride hits October 10–11, 2026, centered in Piedmont Park, one of the biggest Pride festivals in the entire South. Midtown is your base — that's where the bars, the boys, and most of the gay-friendly hotels live.
When to go: Plan around October 10–11 for the parade and festival, or the weekend before/after if you'd rather have Midtown to yourself.

W Atlanta Midtown — luxury, dead center of the gay scene.
Loews Atlanta Hotel — upscale, hot tub in the fitness center, consistently rated for the beds alone.
Hotel Indigo Atlanta Midtown — modern, sits in the Arts District, solid onsite bar for pre-gaming.
Georgian Terrace Hotel — historic landmark, rooftop pool, speakeasy bar, good one if you want a little glam.
The Ellis Hotel Atlanta — boutique, quieter, just outside the thick of Midtown.
4. New Orleans, LA
New Orleans, with my dear mommy, one of my biggest fans/supporters. Fun Fact: This was the last time I laid eyes on her. 2019. She passed shortly after this… so I will always cherish this city and the time I shared with her there.
Now, I heve a love hate relationship with NOLA… because I got robbed there. But I am from Louisiana, so I’ll never turn my back on her. But you have to be EXTRA careful there. Now is not the place or the time to get into what happened, but I just urge you to drink responsibly and pay attention to scammers! If you want your end-of-summer trip to feel like an EVENT, this is it. Southern Decadence runs August 31–September 7, 2026, right over Labor Day into the following week — one of the biggest gay festivals in the South, French Quarter parade, block parties, and a crowd that reads a lot more diverse than most gay beach towns.
When to go: Southern Decadence week is the obvious pick, but late September/October also works if you want the French Quarter energy minus the festival crowds — plus the heat and humidity finally start to break.

Hotel Le Marais — funky, modern, purple-themed, right in the French Quarter.
Bourbon Orleans Hotel — former ballroom and convent, Southern charm, outdoor pool.
Dauphine Orleans Hotel — one block off Bourbon Street, pool and fitness center.
Monteleone Hotel — historic, heated indoor pool, famous carousel bar.
Maison Dupuy — quieter residential-area spot, saltwater pool, courtyard.
5. Key West, FL
Now, Florida is definitely not for me right now. But there is a large gay population there. So I did want to include it. But tread lightly over there. They are doing some weird sh*t. Southernmost point, southernmost energy. Duval Street is lined with gay guesthouses, most of them adults-only and clothing-optional, and the whole island runs on a "vacation forever" pace that's exactly what you need after a long summer.
When to go:Fantasy Fest runs October 16–25, 2026 — costumes, parades, and one of the biggest LGBTQ-embraced parties in Florida. If that's too much chaos for you, September is hurricane-season quiet with the lowest rates of the year (just keep an eye on the forecast).

Island House Key West — clothing-optional men's resort, the island's largest heated pool, 24-hour spa.
Equator Resort — male-only, five historic buildings, heated pools and hot tubs.
New Orleans House — male-only clothing-optional on Duval, pool, garden bar, hot tub.
La Te Da — iconic, Duval Street, cabaret entertainment and a terrace bar.
Silver Palms Inn — adults-only, historic district, hosts Womensfest.
6. San Francisco, CA
The Castro is still the Castro. This one's less "beach resort" and more "walk everywhere, do everything" — and September brings one of the most iconic dates on the whole LGBTQ+ events calendar.
When to go:Folsom Street Fair is Sunday, September 27, 2026 — the world's largest leather and kink street fair, not for the faint of heart but absolutely a bucket-list one. October brings the city's best weather of the year (SF summers are famously cold and foggy, fall is when it actually warms up).

Beck's Motor Lodge — budget option, right in the Castro, walking distance to everything.
Twin Peaks Hotel — economical, Castro-based, steps from Q Bar and The Cafe.
Americania Hotel — mid-century design, SoMa/Castro area, rooftop pool with city views.
Hotel Zephyr — Fisherman's Wharf, gay-friendly, bay views if you want to be near the water.
San Francisco Proper Hotel — stylish, SoMa, close to nightlife with a solid in-house restaurant and bar.
7. Provincetown, MA
Now it can be a little ~white~ here … but there are some vibes. Cape Cod's gay beach town, and honestly one of the most walkable, low-drama Pride-adjacent trips in the country. By fall the summer share-house crowd clears out and it becomes a totally different — some say better — trip.
When to go: Bear Week runs July 10-ish, one of P-town's biggest annual gatherings. Bear week — the hottest bears from around the world pack Provincetown to just be themselves and have fun!

The Provincetown Hotel at Gabriel's — lush gardens, koi pond, fire pits, upscale.
The Masthead Resort — waterfront, private beach access, budget-friendly.

Anchor Inn Beach House — beachfront, easy walk to everything.
8. Fire Island (Cherry Grove & The Pines), NY
No cars, no chains, no noise — just boardwalks, beach, and two of the most legendary gay communities on the East Coast. Season technically runs through Columbus Day (October 12, 2026), so early fall is your last call before the ferries cut back and everything shuts down for winter.
When to go: Labor Day through Columbus Day is the closing stretch — quieter, cheaper, and still fully open, without the July 4th/Pines Party level of chaos.

9. Savannah, GA
Slower pace, Spanish moss, and a genuinely underrated gay-friendly scene for a Southern city this size. Good pick if the crowd-heavy circuit stops aren't your thing this trip.
When to go:Savannah Pride is Saturday, October 24, 2026, noon–11pm in Forsyth Park. October in general is prime Savannah weather — humidity's down, still warm enough for the squares and river walks.

10. Asheville, NC
The wildcard on this list, and worth it. Mountain town, artsy, gay-friendly without being a "gay destination" in the circuit-party sense — and it happens to hit peak fall foliage right in this window.
When to go: Blue Ridge Pride Festival is September 25–26, 2026 in downtown Asheville (adults-only Friday night, family-friendly Saturday at Pack Square Park). Push into mid-to-late October for the Blue Ridge Parkway leaf-peeping at its absolute peak.
