Let's face it… we're already upon a new season in Puerto Vallarta, and it's about to be the best season EVER! But the one thing that can make or break your whole trip? Staying in the wrong hotel. So, as someone who actually lived in Puerto Vallarta and has traveled there extensively, I thought I'd put together a list based on VIBES… THE MOODS…. THE ENERGY.
Because whether you're a partier, a quiet person, or somewhere in the middle, you definitely want your hotel to match that energy when you stay there. You don't wanna end up at some lame spot when you're ready to party poolside all day, and you damn sure don't wanna land in the middle of pool-party chaos when all you wanted was some peace and quiet.
So with that being said, here are the vibes we're reviewing today… and setting you up for success!

What's New in Puerto Vallarta for 2026–2027
A couple things you should know before you book. First, the city is officially designating the Zona Romántica as an LGBTQ+ Friendly District, which (according to GayCities) makes it the first government-recognized LGBTQ+ district of its kind in Mexico. Second, there is a LOT of construction going on right now, from the airport expansion to the Isla Cuale market rehab and a refresh of the Zona Romántica itself, so expect some torn-up streets and plan a little extra time for getting around.

First Things First: Which Area Should You Stay In?
Before you even pick a hotel, pick a neighborhood, because in PV the area decides your whole trip. Here's the quick version:
Zona Romántica (Old Town): the heart of gay PV. You can walk to Playa Los Muertos, the bars on Lázaro Cárdenas, restaurants, all of it. It's loud on weekends and it's cobblestones everywhere, but you'll barely need an Uber.
Amapas & Conchas Chinas: the hillside just south of the Zona Romántica. Views for DAYS and quieter nights, but a whole lot of stairs. Amapas is still walkable to the action.
Centro & the Malecón: right across the river. Still walkable to the Zona Romántica, a little more local, a little less party.
Versalles: the inland food neighborhood. Better value if you're staying longer, but it's not a beach area.
Hotel Zone, Marina & Nuevo Vallarta: big resorts and all-inclusives. Great pools, but you'll be taking Ubers to get to the Zona Romántica, and Nuevo Vallarta is actually in Nayarit, 30 to 45 minutes away. If that's your vibe, check out the best all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta.

Babyyyy yes, we’re in Vallarta, LET’S TURN UP!!! If you’re more of a poolside partier and want access to the beach, you’ll want to make sure you stay at the hotels that offer that entertainment and vibe… Casa Cupula is one of my favorites — it is gay-owned and there is a fun lil secret garden, where it GOES DOWN!!! Lisssen, being away from the mess is fun sometimes… These spots are a lot more local/neighborhood vibes. You may even be able to check out the Mirador de La Cruz hike.
