Cost of Living in Da Nang, Vietnam (2026): What It Actually Costs to Live Here

Every time I post about Da Nang somebody in the comments asks "okay but how much does it COST to live there?" So let's talk numbers.

Quick note before we get in: everybody's lifestyle is different. Some people are out here living on $800 a month and some people are spending $3,000 and still complaining. I'm gonna give you the general ranges plus what I actually see on the ground, and I'll be clear about which is which.

Rough exchange rate to keep in your head: about 25,000 to 26,000 VND = $1 USD. Drop the last three zeros and divide by 25 and you're close enough.

The Short Answer

Most solo people living in Da Nang spend somewhere between $900 and $1,500 a month. You can do it for less if you live like a local, and you can easily spend $2,000+ if you want a nice beachfront apartment, eat Western food every day and go out a lot.

Me? My fixed bills are $360 for rent, about $80 for water, electric and my cleaning lady, and around $200 for food. Add in the usual for Grab, my phone, health insurance, the gym and having a little fun, and I land at about $1,000 a month. For the life I live here? I'm not complaining.

Rent

This is your biggest expense, and it depends almost entirely on WHERE you live. The beach-adjacent areas like An Thuong and My Khe cost more than neighborhoods further from the water.

  • Studio: about $200–$300 outside the tourist areas, $300–$450 near the beach

  • 1-bedroom: about $280–$380 in local areas, $380–$550 in An Thuong/My Khe, $450–$650 in newer buildings with a pool or gym

  • Serviced apartment: about $500–$1,100 with utilities and cleaning included

Pro tip: don't lock in a 6-month lease from abroad. Book a hotel or Airbnb for your first week or two, walk the neighborhoods, and look at places in person. You'll get a better price and you'll actually know what you're getting.

Me? I pay $360 a month in rent. On top of that, I pay about $80 a month for water, electric and a cleaning service. My maid comes every Thursday. Is she the best cleaner in Da Nang? Absolutely NOT, child. But she gets the job done for the most part.

Utilities, Internet & Phone

Electricity is the one that sneaks up on people. If you run the AC all day in the summer (and you WILL), expect $40–$60 a month. Otherwise it's more like $15–$25. Home fiber internet is usually $8–$14 if it's not included in rent, and a local SIM plan with tons of data runs about $4–$8 a month.

Want data the second you land? I use an Airalo eSIM. Use my code NICK3920 for a discount.

Food

This is where Da Nang SHINES. Local food is cheap and it's GOOD.

  • Bánh mì from a street cart: about $1

  • Bowl of mì Quảng or bún chả cá: about $1.50–$2.50

  • Vietnamese coffee: about $1–$1.50, fancy café coffee $2–$3

  • Western meal (burger, pasta, brunch): about $6–$12

  • Beer: under $1 for local draft, $1.50–$2.50 at a bar

Eat mostly local and you can do food for $150–$250 a month. Eat Western a lot and that number doubles fast. The fruit markets are a cheat code too.

Me? My food budget is about $50 a week, and it's probably LESS, child. A lot of my food comes from the local markets, and that's where you save the real money. That's around $200 a month or under. I also wrote about how living in Da Nang changed the way I eat, if you're curious what my plate looks like here.

Getting Around

Grab is everywhere and it's cheap. A short ride around An Thuong is about $1, and the airport to the beach area is around $4–$6. If you're staying a while, renting a motorbike runs about $60–$80 a month. But only ride if you know what you're doing and your insurance covers it. Motorbike accidents are the #1 way people living abroad here get hurt.

Gym

Here's a real price sign from a gym near the beach in Son Tra: 490,000 VND a month (about $19), 1.25 million for three months, and 100,000 VND for a day pass. Fancier gyms with AC and all the bells and whistles cost more, but you don't have to spend much to train here.

Massages, Haircuts & Little Luxuries

This is the part that ruins you for back home. A 60-minute massage at a regular spot near the beach is about 290,000 VND, around $12. A 90-minute hot stone is around $23. Haircuts are cheap too.

Don't Forget Health Insurance

Private clinics in Da Nang are affordable compared to the US, but "affordable" still adds up fast if something serious happens, especially if you end up needing to fly somewhere for treatment. I use SafetyWing for exactly this.

🛟 Don't Skip Travel Insurance

Motorbikes, typhoon season, street food roulette... Vietnam is AMAZING but stuff happens. I use SafetyWing because it's built for people who travel long-term and you can sign up even after you've already left home.

Da Nang is generally cheaper than Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi for a similar lifestyle, especially for rent, but the beach areas aren't the cheapest in the country. If you're trying to stretch every dollar, check out my list of the cheapest cities in Vietnam.
